In MyAlpaca, we are as passionate

about product quality

and customer satisfaction as we are about

our artisanal hand-production process.

Shearing of alpacas in Europe takes place once a year in May. Each alpaca produces approximately 3 kg of fibre annually. That is enough fibre for two single duvets or one double one.

We manually clean the fibre using large sieves to remove plant-based debris and bits of dust. We hand wash the fibre using mild, unfragranced detergent without any chemical additives.

The story of every duvet and pillow

begins with the washing and carding

of newly shorn raw alpaca fibre.

We manually clean the fibre using large sieves to remove plant-based debris and bits of dust.

The most important stage of fibre processing is called carding. During this phase, hundreds of tiny needles on the machine’s rollers comb the fibre into strands of fine, ordered threads. After two complete rounds of carding, the fibres are arranged into a perfectly soft layer several centimetres thick.

Our process is exacting and demanding, but it is the only way to ensure perfection.

  A single mid-size duvet

takes 15 hours to complete.

The prepared fibre filling is placed between two layers of the chosen natural textile casing, which has been pre-cut to correspond to the duvet size and our proprietary superb-fit shape. With the layers of casing and filling arranged in perfect order, we draw the no-slip quilting pattern on top to guide the needle during the next step.

We handcraft each duvet and pillow with attention to every detail,

using traditional guild quilting methods.

Hand-quilting is the most laborious stage of the production process and it is what guarantees the long-lasting no-slip performance of our unrivalled duvets.

We combine the layers in a way that keeps the fibre from shifting, thus preventing the empty areas and resulting cold spots characteristic of machine quilting.

Pure alpaca fibre

in 100%

natural fabrics.

We enclose supple layers of pure alpaca fibre in an all-natural casing made of densely woven white cotton.

We finish all our duvets with natural cotton binding in white colour.

To ensure optimal breathability and thermoregulation, we recommend pairing our duvets and pillows with covers and pillowcases made of all-natural fabrics.
